Asthma Treatment
What are the Signs and Symptoms of Asthma?
The main symptoms of asthma are cough, wheezing, and chest tightness. Although infections of the chest that can cause fever can induce an exacerbation of asthma, asthma alone will not cause a fever.
What are the Treatment Options for Asthma?
For most patients the day to day symptoms of asthma can be well controlled with short acting rescue inhalers (Albuterol, Pro-Air, Ventolin) and long acting inhalers. Some patients will go on to require daily use of steroid inhalers.
What are Common Triggers of Asthma Attacks?
Asthma symptoms may be commonly triggered by any of the following:
- Chest colds
- Allergens including, but not limited to, pollen, mold, cigarette smoke, grass, house dust, and animal dander
- Exercise induced asthma
When Should You See a Doctor for Asthma and Wheezing?
If you start experiencing wheezing or mild to moderate shortness of breath that is not well controlled with your rescue inhaler please come in. Our clinic provider will evaluate your need for chest x-ray and or treatment options including steroids such as prednisone. If you feel you are having life-threatening shortness of breath from asthma please call 911.
